Stand-up comedian, host of Live at the Apollo, and Radio 4 star Hal Cruttenden has won rave reviews almost everywhere he has performed, from Belgium to Bahrain. Unashamedly suburban and teetering on the edge of a mid-life crisis, Hal blends the personal with the ridiculous in his rants about the real evils of the modern world.
A top UK comedian, writer and actor, Hal Cruttenden has performed stand-up from Belgium to Bahrain, winning rave reviews at Montreal’s Just For Laughs along the way.
Wise, unashamedly suburban and teetering on the edge of a mid-life crisis, Hal pokes fun at himself as well as the absurdity that surrounds him - from oversharing on social media to the 5:2 diet.
He has made several appearances on ‘Live at the Apollo’ (BBC1 and 2), ‘Have I Got News For You’ (BBC1) and ‘The Royal Variety Performance’ (ITV) as well as his regular appearances on shows such as ‘Mock the Week’ (BBC2), ‘The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice’ (BBC2 and Channel 4) and ‘The Apprentice: You’re Fired’ (BBC2). On the radio, the second series of his sitcom ‘Hal’ (co-written with Dominic Holland) was recently broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and he has released two comedy DVDs, ‘Tough Luvvie’ (Universal) and ‘Straight Outta Cruttenden’(Amazon Prime and NextUpComedy.com). He has toured the country extensively and, in the last two years, has also taken shows to the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the New Zealand Comedy Festival.
Hal has completed four nationwide tours in the last few years: ‘Straight Outta Cruttenden’(2015/16) ’Tough Luvvie’ (2013/14), ‘The Tiny Rage Tour’(2011) and ‘Lively' (2010). He is also a three time Chortle Award nominee and was nominated for the Perrier Newcomer Award back in 2002. He plans to tour again from the Autumn of 2018.
Having originally trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Hal’s acting career includes roles on TV and film in ‘Shackleton’; ‘Eastenders’; ‘Kavanagh QC’; ‘Out of the Blue’; ‘Touching Evil’ and ‘Bramwell’. On film he has been in ‘Mrs Dalloway‘ and ‘The Madness of King George’. Theatre work includes ‘Making News’ at the Edinburgh Festival and ‘Orwell A Celebration’ at Trafalgar Studios London and the Edinburgh Festival.
