Jon Sopel

A British television presenter and correspondent for BBC World News, and the BBC North America Editor, Jon Sopel is a firmly established force in the broadcasting industry. He was previously chief political correspondent for BBC News 24; a presenter on The Politics Show on BBC One and the BBC News Channel; and, from 2013 to 2014, the main presenter on Global.

In his role as one of the main presenters on BBC News 24, Jon Sopel cemented himself as a leading international news broadcaster. This led to his appointment as Political Journalist of the Year in 2007 by the public affairs industry.

Jon was educated at Christ's College school in London before graduating with an honours degree in politics from Southampton University.

One of the UK’s top political presenters, Jon’s list of interviewees comprises all the leading figures in British and American politics. He famously clashed with Donald Trump at a White House news conference. He has presented from St Petersburg, Washington and Alabama for special editions of the programme, as well as presenting stints during the peak early-evening weekday slot for News 24, and anchoring programmes for the channel from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Sri Lanka following the Tsunami. Jon was in Rome for the death of the Pope and has been on the Israel/Lebanon border during ongoing conflicts.

His other broadcasting credits include presenting BBC2's Newsnight and the highly respected Hard Talk. He was formerly the BBC's Paris Correspondent and prior to this the BBC's Chief Political Correspondent presenting Westminster Live and Around Westminster.

Jon has spoken, chaired and hosted numerous corporate events, and is the author of the acclaimed first biography on Tony Blair called Tony Blair: The Moderniser, published in 1995, as well as of numerous newspaper and magazine articles.
