An Interview With Kate Silverton

1 January 2012

What can a typical corporate audience learn from your experiences?

How crucial team work is, the challenge of working to tight deadlines in a pressured environment, how different the dynamics are between men and women, how best to juggle our working lives and career with home life, looking for what inspires us and building a career that will challenge and fulfill in equal measure...

How did the corporate speaking begin?

It began over a decade ago, when I started to build relations with speakers agencies and contacts in the corporate world. I was launched on the circuit when a company requested me specifically.

Which event has been your favourite and why?

I actually really enjoy each and every event – they are always so different. I always encourage audience participation so any event where I am able to “wander and chat and use audience anecdotes” is always a good one!

If you could speak at any event, past or future, what would it be?

A TED event – on how we can better balance bringing up our families with fulfilling our ambitions at work.

Who would you most like to share a platform with?

Bill Clinton –mainly to see if he is as charismatic and brilliant as I have been told.

What are your most frequently requested speaking topics?

What happens behind the scenes in the Newsroom – and especially what happens when things go wrong!

What do you do to ensure your presentation has a lasting impact?

I like to make it personal to those in the room and to use colourful anecdotes. Connecting with the audience and making it relevant is so important.
