An Interview With Michelle Mone OBE

1 January 2012

What do you do to ensure your presentation has a lasting impact?

I think it's so important to deliver a presentation with candidness and authenticity - so I try to bring these things to mine. Also, it's important to tailor your presentation to your audience so that it's relevant to them.

How did the corporate speaking begin?

After the global success of my first lingerie invention, the Ultimo Gel Plunge Bra, I started to receive lots of requests to attend events to tell my story. That was the start of it and I've never looked back.

Which event has been your favorite and why?

I spoke at an event alongside Bill Clinton, which was a real honour. He has an incredible presence and always delivers his speeches with such confidence and clarity. Having the opportunity to share a stage with him was an occasion I will never forget.

If you could speak at any event, past or future, what would it be?

I regularly speak at events across the UK, but it would be brilliant to meet a more international audience and get the opportunity to speak at events around the world.

Who would you most like to share a platform with?

I'm very proud to say that I have already spoken with that person - Bill Clinton!

What are your most requested speaking topics?

People, particularly those starting out in business, are always keen to hear how I "made it" and managed to create a successful business faced with so many challenges, such as leaving school with no qualifications and being made redundant. I hope it's an inspirational story.

What can a typical corporate audience learn from your experiences?

Large parts of my career have been built on risk-taking and using my intuition, and I hope that the more corporate audiences can see that there is a place for these traits in business. Also the importance of always staying ahead of the competition, innovating and pushing the boundaries. That's what keeps you ahead of the game.
