Comedian and columnist, Shazia Mirza, is an award-winning British Asian Muslim stand-up comedian from Birmingham England. Shazia's comedy covers a range of subjects that include: everyday observational, pop culture and current affairs. When not on stage, or hosting an event,  Shazia can be found writing for The Guardian and The Financial Times.

Shazia started doing stand-up in 2000 and she quickly became a star of the comedy industry, selling out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe festivals and venues across the globe, her comedy career quickly gathered momentum.

Shazia's most recent show ‘Coconut‘ has been nominated for ‘Best Stand Up Tour’ in Channel 4’s National Comedy Awards.

Shazia's previous stand-up shows have toured internationally to critical acclaim.

The Observer named her as one of the Top 10 Female Comedians and in 2010 she won the Arts and Culture Award at the AWA Awards.

Before beginning her career in Standup Shazia was a science teacher at an inner-city London School, having graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Manchester.

Shazia is an accomplished writer who  has had successful columns in The Guardian and The New Statesman.
