  • After Dinner Speakers

For many years, Barry Cryer has utilised his many talents at corporate events and is one of the most popular and funniest after dinner speakers and hosts on the circuit.

In the Beginning

Barry Cryer started his London career by appearing at the Windmill Theatre, a legendary school for comedians, whose graduates have included Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers, Jimmy Edwards, Alfred Marks and more.

Whilst writing for and appearing in shows with Danny La Rue, he met David Frost who invited him to join the writing roster for the Frost Report.  He moved with Frost to ITV and then returned to the BBC as one of the original Two Ronnies writers. Also around this time he became one of the chairmen of Player's Theatre Old Tyme Music Hall, where he still occasionally appears.

Spreading Wings Far and Wide

Barry Cryer has written for practically every comedian in the country including Morecombe and Wise, Bruce Forsyth, Tommy Cooper, Stanley Baxter, Dick Emery, Dave Allen, Frankie Howard, Les Dawson, Ronnie Barker, Ronnie Corbett, Mike Yarwood, Billy Connolly and Jasper Carrot. With Ray Cameron he wrote the Kenny Everett Shows, which won several awards including BAFTA, The Royal Society, The Press Guild and two special mentions at Montreaux.

Barry has appeared in countless panel games on British television and radio including Radio 4’s Just a Minute and the News Quiz, and has been a regular panellist on the award winning show I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue – first broadcast in 1972 – together with team mates Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Humphrey Lyttleton and until December 1996, Willie Rushton.

He toured with Willie in their own successful show Two Old Farts in the Night and appeared in the Dick Vosburgh Denis King play 'A Saint She Ain't' directed by Ned Sherin at the Apollo Theatre.  He also regularly performed his one-man show That Reminds Me and, more recently, has delighted audiences with another one-man show The First Farewell Tour.

In 1999 Barry’s autobiography 'You Won't Believe This, But...' was published the same year, which was subsequently broadcast on Radio 4 and in 2001, Barry was awarded an OBE.   He has since published other books including 'Pigs Can Fly'
