Mary Portas' next challenge - to take on struggling non-fashion retailers 3rd July 2009The Queen of Shops, Mary Portas has expressed her desire to apply her proven trouble shooting skills to struggling non-fashion retailers in the third series of her BBC2 programme. Previous series have featured fashion boutiques and charity shops. After seeing the effects of the recession on Tewkesbury's high street in her last show - Save Our Shops, Mary wants to help other independent non fashion retailers around the country.
James Caan breathes new life into new look property website 29th June 2009James Caan, chairman of Look4aProperty.com since 2008 says he expects both estate agents and buyers to get back into the market before the end of the year. With that in mind, the online property portal has prepared itself to cope with the anticipated demand. The website has now incorporated Google Streetview for homes in 25 cities across the UK and has made the website more user friendly to help users find property more quickly.
The winners of the Social Entrepreneur Awards were announced in London last night 26th June 2009Last night the Bank of Scotland Social Entrepreneur Awards were held at Christ Church, Spitalfields. The winner of the Upper Tier award went to Anne Wexelstein at Columba 1400 which provides leadership development experiences for young people in Scotland who have faced such challenges as homelessness, addiction, poverty and growing up within the care system, the Lower Tier winner was the charity A Way Out founded by Jessie Joe Jacobs which aims to help the most vulnerable people in North East England.

Bear Grylls named as youngest ever Chief Scout 18th May 2009Edward Bear Grylls, star of the hit series 'Born Survivor' was named as the youngest ever Chief Scout for the Scout movement. I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue returns to Radio 4 15th May 2009The BBC Radio 4 panel show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue is to return with Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon sharing the presenter's chair, a year after the death of Humphrey Lyttelton. Recording began in April and the first shows will be broadcast in June. Humphrey Lyttleton died in April 2008, aged 86, he had hosted the show since its beginning in 1972.

Major Phil Packer finishes the London Marathon 11th May 2009A soldier who was told by doctors that he would never walk again has finished the London Marathon 13 days after he started the 26.2 mile course. Major Phil Packer was badly injured in a rocket attack in Basra last February, walked two miles each day on crutches to raise funds for the soldiers' charity, Help For Heroes. On saturday, Phil was presented with his finisher's medal by Sir Steve Redgrave.
Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton completes the Namibian Ultra Marathon 8th May 200925 year old Helen Skelton has recently completed the Namibian Ultra Marathon hailed as one of the toughest races in the world. Helen had to run all 78 miles, the equivalent of three normal marathons in one day as part of a Blue Peter Challenge. She experienced temperatures of up to 45 degrees centigrade in the race that took her 23 hours and 50 minutes to complete. She is only the second woman ever to complete the race, having only ever taken part in fun runs before she started her training.

British plumber, Hannah Dodkin wins the Middle East Apprentice 6th May 200930 year old Hannah Dodkin has won the Arab equivalent of The Apprentice. The former plumber from Somerset was fired in episode nine, but impressed the show's producers so much that she was invited back as a wild card in the final. Hannah finally emerged as a joint winner, bagging half of the £670,000 prize money. The Apprentice style show, called Hydra Executives, was launched by billionaire real estate magnate and philanthropist, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, who plays the show's Alan Sugar character.

As the founder of the first online prescription glasses retailer in Britain, Jamie has fought a tough battle against three of the largest Opticians in a bid to offer prescription glasses at a fraction of the price on the high street.
