Christine Bleakley waterskis the English Channel
12th March 2010 Christine Bleakley was in tears this morning as she completed her daunting bid to waterski across the world's busiest shipping lane. Despite falling eight times into the 4C freezing sea, she made it across 22 miles of choppy ocean in just one hour 40 minutes. Setting off for the French coast at 7.46am, The One Show presenter was good spirits supported by her co-host Adrian Chiles. Christine was determined to complete her challenge whatever the weather after raising thousands of pounds for Sport Relief.

Sir Terry Wogan wins Radio Personality award at the TRIC Awards
10th March 2010 The 2010 Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards, were held yesterday at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Sir Terry Wogan was awarded the gong for Radio Personality at the awards and Barbara Windsor was presented with the TRIC Lifetime Achievement award. Tess Daly picked up the TV Reality Award for Strictly Come Dancing, Harry Hill won TV personality, and Oz Clarke and James May scooped the award for TV arts/documentary programme for Oz and James Drink to Britain.

9th March 2010 Over 36 million visitors have been on the London Eye as it celebrates its 10 year anniversary today. Originally planned to be a five year attraction, it now plans to go nowhere till at least 2025 and has been much imitated throughout the world

David Walliams & celebrity cyclists start 1,000 cycle for Sport Relief
1st March 2010 David Walliams leads a group of celebritiies - inlcuding Davina McCall, Russell Howard, Patrick Kielty, Jimmy Carr, Miranda Hart and Fearne Cotton - on a 1,000 mile charity cycle ride for Sport Relief. The journey starts today from John O'Groats and they will arrive some 80 cycle hours later in Land's End

Marks & Spencer plans to be most sustainable retailer by 2015
1st March 2010 Marks & Spencer has announced plans to make the company the most sustainable retailer in the world by 2015. Talking on Breakfast Television this morning, Sir Stuart Rose confirmed the start of phase 2 of their eco plan, Plan A which was launched in 2007, extending their green targets. New commitments would include making sure all 2.7 billion food, clothing and home items carried at least one sustainable or ethical quality such as being fair-trade or free range.

James Cracknell & Ben Fogle will cross Australia on foot
26th February 2010 James Cracknell and Ben Fogle are to embark on their latest risky adventure, retracing a Victorian expedition to cross Australia which ended in death. Ben and James will be following in the footsteps of Burke and Wills, an Englishman and an Irishman who travelled from Melbourne up through the centre of the country to its north coast 150 years ago. The pair will start the expedition in October and are hoping to complete the trip in 9 weeks, almost 3 months more quickly than the fastest time to date.

Ben & Jerry's goes Fair Trade
24th February 2010 The famously ethical ice cream brand has stayed true to its roots, and has just announced plans to makes its products entirely fair trade. Many assumed the company's ethical stance would slowly be wrung out by the Unilever Corporation after they acquired the company in 2000. It seems Unilever decided it was wise to let the brand continue its focus on social responsibilty. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were in London to announce plans to make Ben & Jerry's fully Fairtrade compliant in all its European products by the end of 2011, followed by the rest of the world in 2013.

Television presenter Holly Willoughby has landed first acting role in 10 years
23rd February 2010 Television presenter and host of Dancing on Ice and This Morning has landed her first acting role in 10 years. Holly will appear in ITV's Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse. The drama, which will be on our screens later in year, also stars former Neighbours actress Holly Valance, Pauline Collins, Sarah Alexander and Cutting It's Jason Merrels.

At the BAFTAs, hosted by Jonathan Ross, The Hurt Locker picked up Best Film and Best Director Awards
22nd February 2010 Once again, television presenter Jonathan Ross hosted the BAFTAs. Vanessa Redgrave received the Academy Fellowship, but the film about the Iraq War, The Hurt Locker, stormed away with Best Film and Best Director for Katherine Bigelow. 18th February 2010 The story of the clash of personalities between Seb Coe and Steve Ovett is to be made into a film. Such was the rivalry and the interest in both athletes at the time, that it is a surprise that it has not been made sooner. Both men were popular and were voted Sports Personality of the Year in 1978 & 79.

Tim Brabants surrenders to London 2012
17th February 2010 Double Olympic medallist Tim Brabants has confirmed he will give up his medical career as a GP in order to return to full time training for the Olympic Games in London in 2012. Tim took both a gold and bronze medal in the K-1 1000 and K-1 500 kayaking disciplines at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Tim could not resist the chance to compete in front of a home crowd at the Olympics and insists that his break from training has allowed him to recharge fully, mentally and physically.

Three original members of the 80s band Bucks Fizz - Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan & Jay Aston - are performing together again
16th February 2010 Two original members of 80s band, Bucks Fizz - Mike Nolan and Cheryl Baker - came together for a charity show to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accident involving the band. Such was the success of their performance that Jay Aston has now joined them and the three original band members have reformed and are available to perform live shows or playback performances

Charlie Bruce wins BBC1's So You Think You Can Dance
15th February 2010 Charlie Bruce has been crowned the UK's best dancer in BBC1's So You Think You Can Dance. She wins £1,000 prize money and the chance to dance in the 7th series of the US version, which starts shortly. Cat Deeley is the host on both sides of the pond and the UK judges included Arlene Phillips, Nigel Lythgoe, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez.

The Winter Olympics in Vancouver
12th February 2010 The 8 hour time difference between the UK and Vancouver means that tonight's opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics doesn't get underway until the early hours of tomorrow morning. Skeleton bob medallist hopeful, Shelley Rudman will carry the Olympic flag for Great Britain at the opening ceremony. Hazel Irvine, Sue Barker and Clare Balding will be hosting the coverage on the BBC, where live TV coverage will begin around 7pm every evening. There will also be a roundup show at lunchtimes to catch up on the overnight action. Gold medallist, Matthew Pinsent will also be reporting on TV, along with Steve Cram, Rhona Martin and British skating icon, Robin Cousins.

Kevin McCloud says the slums of Mumbai could teach the UK alot about social sustainabilty
14th January 2010 Britain should focus less on building environmentally friendly housing and more on providing “happy” places to live, according to Grand Designs host Kevin McCloud. The presenter journeyed to the Dharavi slum in Mumbai after hearing claims that it might hold some answers to the problems facing our cities. Kevin lived, slept, worked and ate in the slum where disease is rife and it is estimated that there is one lavatory for every 1,400 residents. Kevin believes that the British Government shouldn't worry so much about creating eco-towns, but instead focus on the social aspect of housing, how to make people happier.

Dancing on Ice lineup revealed
22nd December 2009 The new series of Dancing on Ice gets underway on the 15th January 2010 with fourteen celebrities competing to win the competition. Chris Hollins crowned Strictly Champion
21st December 2009 BBC breakfast sports presenter, Chris Hollins was named Strictly Come Dancing champion with his professional dance partner Ola Jordan on saturday night. The underdog, tipped to bow out early in the dance competition was the surprise winner, beating Holloaks actor and judges favourite Ricky Whittle to the trophy.

Richard Noble's Bloodhound supercar set to power its way to 1000mph

Pen Hadow warns that the Arctic will be ice-free within a decade
16th October 2009 The findings of the Catlins Arctic Survey analysed by Cambridge University and the WWF have shown that the Arctic is melting at such a rate that it could be almost ice free within 10 years. The results of the expedition will be presented to a UN meeting in Copenhagen in December as further evidence that the world must reduce carbon emissions in order to prevent the Arctic melting at an even faster rate. 28th September 2009 The adventurer, environmentalist and speaker, Lewis Gordon Pugh has announced that his latest intrepid expedition will be to swim across a glacial lake on Mount Everest to highlight the dangers of climate change. The thrill of adventure drives people do some quite remarkable things. Throw in a campaign and you have some people who will go to extremes to make sure their campaign is heard. Lewis Gordon Pugh, the swimmer who is going to dive into melted ice on Everest to highlight climate change, is one of these people. Lewis plans to swim under the summit of Mount Everest. Something nobody has ever done before. Southeastern trains to be named after top British athletes
25th September 2009 Train operator Southeastern has renamed 12 of its high-speed trains after British Olympic and Paralympic medallists, including Sebastian Coe, Daley Thompson and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson. The rebranding, an unofficial association with London 2012, also sees trains named after Dame Kelly Holmes, Steve Backley, Sir Steve Redgrave, Rebecca Adlington, Sir Chris Hoy, Ben Ainslie, Duncan Goodhew, Katherine Grainger and Jamie Staff. The trains were unveiled at a special ceremony in Ashford by Jamie Staff, a member of the British cycling sprint team that won the gold medal at last year's Olympics in Beijing, under the banner of "Britain's Fastest" for 12 of Southestern's new javelin trains.

James May's Lego house to be demolished
23rd September 2009 After creating the world's first Lego house using 3.2 million Lego bricks and 100 volunteers, Top Gear presenter James May has been told that the house must be demolished. After plans for Legoland, Windsor to buy the house fell through, a facebook group was created to find a buyer for the house. With estimated costs of £50,000 to dismantle and rebuild the house, no one has claimed the house and it will be dismantled this morning.

Co founder of Green & Blacks, Craig Sams is using charcoal to fight climate change
2nd September 2009 The entrepreneur, speaker who with Jo Fairley founded Green & Black's organic chocolate, has created a biochar business in a bid to combat climate change. The process involves taking waste from agriculture and fishing and turning it into charcoal by roasting it in a low-oxygen atmosphere. The process turns waste into raw carbon, which can then be used to fertilise the soil. Dan Morrell, a former music promoter and entrepreneur who co founded the company, Carbon Gold with Craig said that the technology had huge promise but needed to be proved in a large scale trial. The company's first deal with the government of the Maldives should provide the opportunity to do this.

Major Phil Packer finishes the London Marathon
11th May 2009 A soldier who was told by doctors that he would never walk again has finished the London Marathon 13 days after he started the 26.2 mile course. Major Phil Packer was badly injured in a rocket attack in Basra last February, walked two miles each day on crutches to raise funds for the soldiers' charity, Help For Heroes. On saturday, Phil was presented with his finisher's medal by Sir Steve Redgrave.

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton completes the Namibian Ultra Marathon
8th May 2009 25 year old Helen Skelton has recently completed the Namibian Ultra Marathon hailed as one of the toughest races in the world. Helen had to run all 78 miles, the equivalent of three normal marathons in one day as part of a Blue Peter Challenge. She experienced temperatures of up to 45 degrees centigrade in the race that took her 23 hours and 50 minutes to complete. She is only the second woman ever to complete the race, having only ever taken part in fun runs before she started her training.

Christine Bleakley was in tears this morning as she completed her daunting bid to waterski across the world's busiest shipping lane. Despite falling eight times into the 4C freezing sea, she made it across 22 miles of choppy ocean in just one hour 40 minutes. Setting off for the French coast at 7.46am, The One Show presenter was good spirits supported by her co-host Adrian Chiles. Christine was determined to complete her challenge whatever the weather after raising thousands of pounds for Sport Relief.
