Following the 2012 London Olympics, Anna hopes to keep up the enthusiasm for women’s sport in order to get more funding and better sponsors for female athletes. The Women’s Sport Trust is a new non profit organisation set up to capitalise on Olympic fever by raising funds to ensure that anyone can develop their sporty side.
Anna knows from her own experience how expensive the life of an athlete is and therefore she wants to help other female athletes who will have to go through the same expenses in order to become the best in their sport.
Currently female athletes only receive 0.5 per cent of total sponsorship in the UK and only three women appeared in the Forbes’ latest sporting rich list, the Trust will highlight these issues with the hope that they can make a difference to our future female athletes.
Anna is of the belief that the role of the media plays a huge part in helping athletes to gain recognition and can therefore lead to sponsorships and better engagement. Anna stated “The Olympics was brilliant evidence that if people know who we are as athletes, know our stories, there’ll be a huge amount of engagement, whether we’re male or female...if the media is on side, the sponsorship will follow.”
Anna is expecting her first child in September and yet to decide whether she will be back for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
