Triple Olympic gold medalist and motivational speaker Ben Ainslie has confirmed the launch of his own America's Cup team, and has not ruled out competing at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Ainslie announced that he will lead the British-flagged team Ben Ainslie Racing in the 2012/13 AC World Series, which begins shortly after the Olympic Finn class final in which Ainslie will be competing for a fourth title.
BAR will be defending of the 34th America's Cup, before launching a challenge for the trophy with his new team the following year.
"We're going to challenge for the 2012/13 AC World Series, which doesn't start until late August, so there's no impingement on my Olympic plans, confirms. “I remain 100 per cent focused and committed on that and this will all kick in after the Olympics," said Ainslie.
"It's great to have that all in place because once the London Olympics is over I have to move on to the next stage of my career.
"Sure, in Olympic terms I'm not getting any younger but I wouldn't say my participation is over. A lot depends on the classes in 2016 and how things go in the summer.
"The 2012 Olympics has been the focus, but from that has come the opportunity to be able to build a team which we hope can ultimately go on to challenge for the 35th America's Cup."
Ainslie's involvement in America's Cup racing could eventually lead to the World Series' return to Britain.
