After eleven successful years hosting one of the nation’s favourite television shows, Bruce Forsyth decided that the time had come for him to say goodbye to ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The awards host has said that the public criticism over his age was on the reasons that contributed to his decision to leave the show. Bruce appeared on the Michael McIntyre Show and spoke about his decision, he told Michael ‘It’s live every week and if I made a mistake the press would say “Oh he’s 86 years old and past it”...which you don’t need, who needs it?’
Bruce said that he was finding live television very tiring and that he felt ready to leave at this point in his life. He believes leaving the show will be better for him physically and will also him to spend more time with his wife and his family.
Speaking about the media attention he received after he announced his decision, Bruce said ‘I didn't expect it to make all the fuss it did. I'm very flattered by all that and it's been marvelous.’
There have been no announcements from the BBC to say who will replace Bruce as the Strictly Come Dancing co-host alongside Tess Daly. However, Bruce will be returning to our screens to front the one-off editions of Strictly, including Christmas and Children in Need specials.
