The show is produced by Wall to Wall, the independent production company that makes the long running BBC genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?.
In contrast to the hit BBC1 show which focuses on uncovering family history, Long Lost Family will reunite people with living relatives they have been trying to track down. The programmes will look at how people become estranged, and then follow the process of tracing relatives, to conclude with an emotional reunification.
Many of the stories will involve adoption and production firm Wall To Wall will work with the charity Adults Affected By Adoption - Norcap. Nicky himself was adopted and is a patron of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering.
"I've never been so excited about a show in my career," said Nicky. "I have a deep emotional connection with it, being an adopted person and having traced my own birth families."
And Davina said: "I believe that families are the most important part of everyone's life and so when I first heard about the ethos of this series, I knew I wanted to be involved. The series promises to be heart-warming, emotional and life affirming... just the kind of show I love watching."
The six-part series of 60-minute episodes will air on ITV1 this autumn
