Inspirational yachtswoman Dee Caffari has taken her success to the Middle East in the impressive position of coach and skipper of the Women's Sailing Team in Oman.
Dee is in the region to oversee the training of the seven-strong Oman Sail Women's Sailing Team and is heading up their campaign in the Muscat Inshore Regatta and the Muscat to Khasab Race.
"At some stage, there will be a full crew of Omani girls competing in these events and there is no reason why these girls shouldn't go on and compete in races round the world," said Dee.
The four sailors learned to sail just weeks before their last event, and were hailed as ‘remarkable’ by the judges.
"These girls are breaking new ground which is really exciting because they will be role models to other girls coming through the Women's Sailing Programme," added Dee.
Oman Sail's Women's Sailing Programme was launched in 2011 and has been acclaimed across the world for its innovation in breaking down barriers by creating unique opportunities in sport.
Dee became the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world in both directions after completing the Vendee Globe in 2009.
