Dee Caffari, motivational speaker and inspirational keynote speaker, has been nominated for the coveted ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.
Caffari joins fellow British sailors, Ben Ainslie and Alexandra Rickham in the nomination line up.
Her thirst for adventure and capacity to overcome enormous challenges appealed to the the International Sailing Federation, who receive nominations from across the globe for sailors representing all aspects of the sport.
In 2011 Caffari earned herself another place in the record books when she completed the Barcelona World Race. Sailing the double-handed non-stop around the world race, Dee and her co-skipper finished in sixth place after 102 days at sea. This achievement elevates Caffari to the position of first woman to sail non-stop around the world three times.
“It is an honour to receive this recognition from your peers in the sport ,” said Dee, “and I am delighted to be associated with such an impressive line up of sailors. I have worked incredibly hard over the last six years and although I am pleased with what I have achieved so far, I am always looking ahead to the next challenge. It is fantastic for offshore sailing to be recognised alongside other disciplines within the sport.”
Dee’s next goal is to compete in the Vendée Globe 2012 with the intention of securing a podium position and the search for a new title sponsor to support her ongoing sailing campaign continues.
