On September 8th the gardens of Clarence House, the official residence of the Prince of Wales, will be opened to the public for the first time for ‘A Garden Party with a Difference’! The grounds of Lancaster House and Marlborough House will also be opened. The party will run until September 19th and there will be a fantastic range of events including live musicians, comedians, and speakers, all with the aim of encouraging sustainable living.
Cooking demonstrations using eco-friendly methods will be on show, and even sewing using recycled materials. Facilitator extraordinaire Jonathan Dimbleby will be fresh from Any Questions? and his recent BBC documentary in South Africa to facilitate and chair the debates. Perhaps Jonathan will be able to make use of the advice on hand following his own tricky experiences with his 50ft wind turbine! Having gone to the trouble of having it erected at his Devon home, it is sadly failing to deliver the promised electricity supply, and Jonathan may be in need of some advice. Jonathan will also be joined by Sanjeev Bhaskar and the after dinner talent that is Clive Anderson, who has been very busy in 2010 with Loose Ends, QI, The Bubble, and This Week.
To lighten the load of environmental stresses and strains, comedian Hugh Dennis – star of Outnumbered and Sport Relief 2010 - will be on hand in the comedy corner. Hugh will also be joined by recent star of Spamalot and Have I Got News For You, Marcus Brigstocke. Even the awards host and TV presenter Kate Humble will be there, focusing on eco-friendly food and the outdoors.
So if the environment and garden sunshine relaxation are for you, sit back and enjoy the delights of the royal gardens at this historic event. Maybe even the Queen will pop by for some tea...
