The aim of the Forum is to find a solution to overcome consumer waste and the idea of the ‘circular economy’ is to rebuild capital and ensure enhanced flows of goods and services. Products are made to be more sustainable as their design is based around reusable parts so that the recycling process is made easier.
In an interview with BBC News, Dame Ellen said that this new approach could save industries money and consumer products will be cheaper. Speaking about the ‘circular economy’ in another interview Dame Ellen stated that “We have an uncertain future because our economy runs from a manufacturing perspective. We take a finite number of resources, we make something out of them and ultimately, at the end of their life, we throw them away.”
She went on to say that the goal of the ‘circular economy’ is to improve the current system and the idea “is simply to take a little less, make a little more and throw away a little less.”
