Retired Football legends have the chance to get back on the pitch and back into the limelight with a new project encouraging the comeback of football legends. Football40 is a new style of 11-a-side football, where 20 minutes are played each way, enabling a four team tournament to be played as a single three hour event.
Football40 was launched at The London Legends Cup, at Craven Cottage, Fulham’s home ground. The event was organised by former England, Spurs and Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle, World Cup winner with Argentina and former Spurs manager Ossie Ardiles and former Chelsea and Fulham manager Bobby Campbell.
The rules have been enhanced with unlimited roll-on roll-off substitutions, a sin-bin and other changes to the traditional rules, creating a fast-paced and exciting competitive game.
Hoddle explained: “The key to Football40 is being able to compete for a short period of time. If it captures the imagination of the public there could be a more structured league put together and that excites me.”
