The events industry is one that is constantly adapting to change and event professionals have to be aware of their client’s expectations. Each year events companies strive to make each event bigger and better than the last, and industry players have been discussing the trends that they believe will influence 2014.
Jonathan Morris the Commercial Director at No.11 Cavendish Square has stated that ‘Budgets may increase next year but organisers will still need to do more with less and it’s up to venues to give added value.’
Meanwhile Managing Director of Top Banana, Nick Terry believes that ‘audience participation will change after disillusionment with political and economical hardships of recent years...There will be a further rise in social media use with event planners embracing the concepts throughout pre, post and during events.’
Nick Terry makes an important point about social media as it has become a vital tool used to advertise and market an event. Many of us rely on social media outlets such as twitter and Facebook to find out about events and their details. Thus event organisers must ensure that they are active on these sites and can create a buzz around an up and coming event through social medial.
Social media will not just be used to promote an event it will also be used more in meetings, events already use twitter for Q+A’s. This allows people to tweet their question using a hashtag, which may appear on a big screen for the audience to see. James Wilkins is the joint MD of Logistik Group and when asked about future trends he stated ‘trends will include a rise in the use of social media and digital technology in meetings; interactive and participative content via smartphones and tablets is becoming increasingly important in the fight for attention and effort.’
According to C&IT Magazine, ‘there will be business events growth in 2014’ and we are experiencing a ‘broad-based upturn across all sectors’. Thus the events industry is an exciting industry to be involved in for 2014.
