On the 3-11th July 2010, London will host the biggest celebration of dance in the world in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics. Big Dance is being sponsored by the independent charity, The Legacy Trust, which was set up in 2007. The charity have donated £2.89m to the dance extravaganza.
Hundreds of dance events will take place around the capital and there will be a 2 hour dance parade from the Southbank Centre to Trafalgar Square involving 10,000 people.
Mayor Boris Johnson, who is a huge fan of dance, is encouraging everyone to get involved in this 'terpisichorean feast' - what a Borisism! For those of us, who have never come across the word terpsichorean before, literally means 'dance-enjoying' from 'terpsis' meaning enjoyment and 'choros' meaning dance.
