Goodbye House of Commons, hello brown bears, vultures, bee-eaters and killer whales. The day after he left parliament Michael Portillo set off to discover the wilder side of his Spanish heritage. On his journey from the mountains of the Pyrenees to the Straits of Gibraltar, Michael finds a land of striking natural contrasts supporting more varied wildlife than anywhere else in Europe. In order to see creatures as rare and beautiful as Iberian lynx he has to draw on qualities he never knew he had, patience and being silent.
