"We have been running a staff questionnaire every year to assess what really motivates people in the workplace. As a result of this we've seen a year-on-year improvement in staff motivation and events have played a key role in this," said Price.
He added that Akzo has been successful and profitable during the economic crisis but staff motivation can be affected by current affairs. "Our reaction to the deepening Eurozone crisis and the recession is to look into how to keep our staff performing optimally, and happily, during testing times," he added.
Akzo's team-building activities have included a 'The Apprentice'-themed contest and an 'I'm a Celebrity' day.
