Nick Robertson Voted Top Entrepreneur

2 March 2011

Nick Robertson, with his online retailer Asos, has taken top spot in Management Today’s Top 100 British Entrepreneur race.

The industry magazine has voted the determined businessman top of the pile, in a list which includes TV’s dragon,  Duncan Bannatyne , Emma Harrison of A4E and veteran businessman John Timpson.

Since taking the rag trade by storm, Asos is now worth 100 times what it was 10 years ago.

Former ad exec Robertson co founded Asos in 2000. He was inspired by the urban myth that after the first TV airing of Friends, 25,000 viewers called in to ask where they could get the picture frame that hung on Monica’s front door. He decided there was an open niche for ‘as seen on screen’ fashion, and aimed it at net-savvy 20-somethings looking to emulate celebrities but at a fraction of the price.

Asos has become one of the most successful internet retailers, stocking over 800 brands as well as its own collection.

Asos has acquired a factory in Haringey, north London and a warehouse. The company is now valued at over £1b.
