Remembering 9/11 – A Decade On

12th September 2011

To mark the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington DC, the world’s press is highlighting the stories of victims, families and emergency services personnel, alongside expert analysis of how the collapse of the Twin Towers affected the international security situation, and the political and economic realm. Speakers Corner holds a varied catalogue of corporate speakers with either personal experience of the horror of one of the darkest days in history, or an insight into how the world has changed since September 11th, 2001.

Some of the experienced and charismatic speakers available for corporate events include former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, News presenter and reporter Paddy O’Connell, Vice President of the Toledo International Centre for Peace Shlomo Ben Ami, and Professor of International Security at the University of Birmingham, Stefan Wolff.

Since September 11th, 2001, Rudy Giuliani has spoken extensively about how, confronted with a city on its knees, he had to stand strong in the face of the life-or-death challenges he never dreamt he would encounter. The mayor describes his urgent efforts to establish a safe command post for the city's leadership team; protect important sites around the city, including bridges and subways; deploy and direct medical teams; and conduct a press conference to let people know city leadership was intact and working to protect them. His message of leadership is extraordinary and inspirational.

International broadcaster Paddy O'Connell lived and worked in the USA for eight years, and reported from New York during the attacks of 9/11. His first-hand account of how events unfolded that day is enlightening and mesmerising.

Shlomo Ben Ami is a former Israeli foreign minister who now serves as Vice President of the Toledo International Centre for Peace. He is the author of Scars of War, Wounds of Peace: The Israeli-Arab Tragedy, and can speak with a unique and insightful analysis on the international political crisis that unfolded in the wake of the attacks.

Stefan Wolff is Professor of International Security at the University of Birmingham. He specialises in the management of contemporary security challenges and post conflict reconstruction.
