Actress and celebrity television presenter, Joanna Lumley was brought up in Malaysia and never experienced cold or the snow as a child. Her film 'In the Land of the Northern Lights' documents her journey north in her quest to track down the North Lights, what she describes as the 'true wonder of the world'.
Her journey to Norway takes her to the romantic fjords of Lofoten where she learns to ride a snowmobile, speeding across endless expanses of Lapland tundra with a Sami herdsman in search of his reindeer. As she reaches the Arctic Ocean, she prepares for bed in a hotel made entirely of ice.
'In the Land of the Northern Lights' has been nominated for a National Television Award. In the Star Travel category, Joanna is up against Piers Morgan On...Dubai, Stephen Fry in America and Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World.
The results of the awards will be announced by Dermot O'Leary on Wednesday 20th January at 7.30 on ITV1.
In a very apt bit of television scheduling, with the UK once again covered in snow, you can watch Joanna Lumley's film repeated tonight on BBC Four at 8pm.
