Experts from the Times have selected 100 ‘faces that will define the year ahead’, including Sir Ranulph Fiennes, one of the world’s most lauded explorers and adventurers, and one of the most popular speakers on the after dinner circuit.
Other successful figures from a variety of industries lauded by the journalists, include Helen Czerski, oceanographer and presenter of BBC 2’s Orbit: Earth's Extraordinary Journey and Operation Iceberg; Andy Green, RAF pilot and speed record holder aiming to break the sound barrier in a car; Philip Clarke, Tesco CEO who hopes to turn around the supermarket chain’s fortunes in 2013, and Mark Carney, the incoming Governor of the Bank of England – hoping to take on the country’s economic dire straits.
The epic list comprises scientists, business figures, and thinkers, as well as leading lights in the world of the arts. And, according to the Times, the future of music is in the capable hands of the enigmatic and pioneering Lady Gaga, whose new album will be released as a smartphone app.
