Britain’s most famous national book festival has kicked off in the border town of Hay on Wye in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Each day, up to fifty fascinating sessions take place with an amazing selection of experts speaking on topics from sustainability to the future of the world economy, and from tales of adventuring to gourmet tips on food and the hospitality industry , as well as comedy turns and a young entrepreneur’s workshop.
Some of this year’s most impressive participants include Radio 4 broadcaster Libby Purves, award-winning comedian Marcus Brigstocke, hard-hitting face of news Kirsty Wark, politician and social commentator Paddy Ashdown and extreme swimmer Lewis Pugh.
Also at the festival are former international footballer Geoff Hurst, environmentalist and writer Jonathon Porritt, branding expert David Hieatt, comedianFransesca Martinez, scientist Niall Ferguson, digital entrepreneur Arianna Huffington, comedian and TV presenter Rob Brydon, Radio 4 presenterJames Naughtie and journalist Alain De Botton.
The festival has become a British icon and is known to promote the most pertinent and forward thinking new publications in bookshops, with the backing and participation of the UK’s leading literary figures.
