The King’s Speech Takes Centre Stage at the Oscars

28th February 2011

The art of public speaking has never been so widely celebrated as now. British-made The King’s Speech was the toast of La La Land last night at the glittering Oscars ceremony, picking up four Oscars including best picture, best actor for Colin Firth, original screenplay and surprise best director prize for Tom Hooper, while other fancied contenders fell short.

Colin Firth who played the speech-impaired King George VI took home the Best Actor award; Natalie Portman was awarded Best Actress for playing troubled ballerina in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, and Christopher Nolan's Inception, which quietly scooped up as many awards as The King's Speech, albeit in less flashy categories.

Hollywood’s hottest young things Anne Hathaway and James Franco presented the awards with a polish and finesse befitting the glittering occasion.
