The Masters 2014 begins today and players will return to Augusta to battle over the infamous Green Blazer, this year’s competition is looking stronger than ever and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is one of the favourites to win.
Every year the Masters takes place at the Augusta Golf Course, Georgia, which according to Masters Veteran, Peter Alliss, ‘is a very interesting place and has a wonderful feel’. Peter also stated ‘I still love it after 40 odd years.’
The course has carried on many of its old traditions including the Champions Dinner, ceremonial starters, the par-three contest or amateurs bunking down in the Crow's Nest above the clubhouse.
Last year Adam Scott won the tournament and was awarded the Green Blazer, considered to be one of golf’s ‘most coveted accolades’. The reigning Masters Champion is allowed to take the jacket home for the year and then it must be kept at the club.
The Masters is being covered by the BBC, Radio Five Live and Sky Sports, lots of familiar faces will return to present the coverage. Sky will be showing all four days of the Masters, while the BBC will broadcast live coverage of the final two rounds and highlights of the first few days.
Awards host, Kirsty Gallagher will be joined by Colin Montgomerie on Sky Sports to discuss the next few days of the tournament. Hazel Irvine will be presenting the BBC coverage, with commentary from Peter Alliss, Ken Brown, Andrew Cotter and Paul Azinger.
