The Thinkers50 was announced at the beginning of the week and in addition to the top 50 ranking positions, there were other awards handed out. These awards include the Strategy, Leadership and Innovation Awards.
The winner of the Thinkers50 Strategy Award was given to Rita Gunther McGrath, an associate professor of management at Columbia Business School. The co-founder of the Thinker50 awards, Stuart Crainer stated “The shortlist for the award was an exceptional list. But Rita McGrath’s work stood out. It is accessible and authoritative, with a restless inquisitive energy and a boldness which sets it apart.”
The leadership award went to the Cora Chaired Professor of Leadership and Learning and Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD, Herminia Ibarra. Des Dearlove explained why Thinker50 had chosen Herminia as their Leadership Award winner; he stated ‘Herminia Ibarra’s work is deeply rooted in the actual practice of leadership. It is not abstract theorizing or hero-worship, but rigorous and relevant to what leaders actually do and need to do.’
Navi Radjou, a fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School received the Thinkers50 Innovation Award. At the Business School he has worked as director of the Centre for India & Global Business and his his ‘concept of jugaad innovation has captured worldwide attention.’ Stuart Crainer stated ‘It turns much of the preconceived wisdom about innovation on its head and encourages those in the West especially to think again about how they interpret and practice innovation. His contribution is both distinctive and important.’
