The British Institute of Interior Design will be holding its first retrofit conference this year – to be held at The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour in March. The event is a great opportunity for budding designers, contractors, sustainable product suppliers and associated professionals.
Up for discussion will be retrofit designing and project management, the guidelines of governmental legislation, and future opportunities and growth spots for the industry. The BIID Sustainable Product Award will also be presented at the event in order to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable design – an area which is growing in importance given the government’s target to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
Keynote speaker and design guru Wayne Hemingway MBE – of ‘Red or Dead’ fame and ‘Hemingway Design’ - will be speaking at the conference. Wayne has been involved in the design of everything from books to fashion, interiors and urban design and he has a busy year in store bringing his ‘Vintage’ festival to London this July at the Southbank Centre. Wayne’s ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ festival took place for the first time last August attracting a host of fans from Lily Allen to Mick Hucknall and Daisy Lowe.
Wayne plans to transform the Southbank into a Vintage Wonderland with a host of workshops, design shows, vintage retailers, dance shows and a whole spectrum of live music. There will even be a few Thames boat party surprises!
So if you are at the interior design conference in March or decide to join in the fun of the festival in July let us know what you think!
