It’s that time of year again, Wimbledon has started and it’s the tournament that kicks off the summer. This year the Nation’s favourite player, Andy Murray is back to defend his title as the 2013 Wimbledon Champion.
The tennis open takes place for two weeks in June every year and causes much excitement in London and the rest of the world. Each year the tennis professionals put on their tennis whites and step onto the Wimbledon grass courts fighting for the chance to play on centre court during finals weekend.
As ever, there is a lot of hype following Andy Murray especially after his first ever Wimbledon victory last year, however he still has some stiff competition against other defending Wimbledon champions including Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
In the women’s draw, last year’s winner Marion Bartoli will not be playing as she is now retired and the female players to watch out for include Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki and Na Li.
The BBC will be covering Wimbledon on BBC One and BBC Two during the day, followed by Today at Wimbledon at 8pm. Sue Barker will return to present the majority of the BBC coverage and other commentators include Tim Henman, John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Laura Robson, John Inverdale and Clare Balding.
