World Architecture Festival in Barcelona 2010

4th November 2010

The Danish talent that is Bjarke Ingels will be very busy over the next few days, enjoying the architectural delights of Barcelona and judging some of the world’s best talent.  He is an internationally-renowned architect who has received numerous awards for his design and building projects and his latest project, The Mountain, has been recognised with a World Architecture Housing Award, a Forum Aid Award, and the MIPIM Residential Development Award.  The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) works according to a concept of ‘programmatic alchemy’ which aims to provide spaces and facilities which effectively combine the needs of leisure, living, parking, shopping and working.  Bjarke’s current pursuits include teaching a joint studio with the Graduate School of Design and Business School in his role as Visiting Professor at Harvard University.

The World Architecture Festival celebrates a huge range of buildings including those used for health, holidaying, housing, sports, offices, shopping, educational and cultural/civic projects.  Nominees for some of the most impressive designs include Foster & Partners, Studio Daniel Libeskind, David Chipperfield Architects, and Zaha Hadid Architects (recent winner of the Stirling Prize for the $207m Rome Museum).  Over 100 architects from 80 countries will be attending the festival and there are even plans to organise a similar festival in December in Abu Dhabi to celebrate Middle Eastern architecture.  Speakers will come together to address the challenges facing architectural projects in the Middle East.

The festivals are a fabulous melting pot of ideas and inspiration and the speaking seminars include a whole range of talent from Paul Baker to Ramon Jesus Gonzalez and Peter Chappell.  Bjarke will be enjoying the event and also celebrating the recent announcement that he has just been awarded the 2010 European Prize for Architecture – awarded by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, an incredible achievement.

So, our congratulations to Bjarke and we look forward to seeing his impressive future plans come to fruition!
