General Election July, 2024

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for a UK General Election to go ahead this July, giving UK political parties just 6 weeks worth of campaigning time. There are so many questions floating about as to why this decision was made with such a quick turnaround, and without a definitive answer, we can only make educated guesses.

Many speculated that the next General Election was going to be held in the Autumn, however this surprising change of events suggests that there will be little movement in voters opinions.

The next UK Election will be held on 4th July 2024, with all eyes watching to see if the Conservatives can hold their fort after suspected losses to the Labour Party.

When Will the Results Be Announced?

The results will be announced on the 5th July 2024, the day after the next British General Election.

What are the Main Policies of Labour, the Conservatives & the Liberal Democrats?

It's a tight race in this next General Election, with a predicted close call finish between Labour and the Conservatives.

This is why it's crucial to understand who you are voting for, and whilst it can all be very overwhelming and rather confusing, doing your best to remain educated on the latest updates plays a massive part in understanding UK Politics and, ultimately, who gets into Number 10!

Labour's 2024 manifesto focuses on -

2. Cut NHS waiting times, focusing on reforming the NHS to make it fit for the future.

3. Launch a new Border Security Command, using tough new counter-terror powers to smash criminal smuggling gangs to tackle the problem at the root.

Conservative's 2024 manifesto pledges -

1. Halve inflation.

2. Growing the economy through long-term investment for towns - to be spent on local priorities.

2. Reduce debt.

Liberal Democrat's 2024 manifesto promises -

1. A fair, prosperous and innovative economy that promotes opportunity and wellbeing.

2. Fair access to good public services and a strong social safety net.

How Politics Speakers Play a Role in Political Engagement

Political policies are constantly evolving to meet the geo-political and financial landscape. This ever-changing world can be hard to remain on top of, however it's now more important than ever to make informed decisions on who to bring into Number 10, as we emerge from the Cost of Living Crisis and the Pandemic.

Political speakers are experts at compiling the facts and figures into easily digestible chunks to help you make informed voting decisions. Whether they specialise in one particular political party, or provide a more general overview of the current political climate, there is a huge variety of politics speakers out there who are passionate about educating people on a topic that impacts everyone's future.

Ensuring that everyone, particularly the younger generations, utilise their vote is fundamental. Not only can political speakers help the younger generations understand what each party stands for, they also help business owners understand what implications the outcome of the General Election may have on their business.

UK General Election 2024 FAQs

How Does Voting Work?

In the UK, we use the legislative "First Past the Post" voting system. This is one of the simplest electoral systems that comprises of choosing for one individual option from a list of candidates. The candidate with the largest number of votes wins in that constituency, which then wins a seat in the House of Commons. The party with the most seats, wins the overall majority.

How Often Are UK General Elections Held?

UK General Elections tend to take place every 5 years, as this is how long a Prime Minister's term is. It's important to vote with the future in mind, as a lot can change in the 5 years a party is in office.

Voting plays a crucial part in transforming history, even if you think your vote won't make a difference. By exercising your right to vote, you get to decide who makes the decisions on the issues you care about, and if you vote for a candidate who doesn't win, it still pushes them up the leader board to gain more funding, awareness and a possible increased chance of getting in next time.

Important Deadlines for a UK General Election

The deadline to register to vote is 18th June. You can register online in a few simple steps, or via a paper form that gets sent to your local Electoral Registration Office.
