In 2012, it was announced that Gary had signed a 4 year deal to become a coach of the English National team under new manager Roy Hodgson. Gary’s first role with the team was to help their preparations for the 2012 European Championships being hosted in Poland & Ukraine.

Outside of football, Gary is a passionate advocate of environmental sustainability which is illustrated through the Sustainability in Sport programme that he set up to help promote awareness and run environmental projects. The first event for Sustainability in Sport was Gary’s testimonial at Old Trafford where the game was run entirely on renewable generation sources and reported to be the most eco-friendly game in English football history. Gary has also gained planning permission for a zero-carbon house to be built in the North West of England.

Gary spent his entire career at Manchester United coming through the youth system as an integral part of the class of ’92 alongside which included David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and his brother Phil.

Gary amassed 602 caps for Manchester United in a glittering career, which including winning 8 Premiership titles, 1 Champions League and 3 FA Cups. On the International stage, after his debut in 1995 Gary went on to establish himself as Englands’ first choice right back representing his country at Euro 2000 and Euro 2004 as well as the 1998 & 2006 World Cups. On February 7th 2007 Gary made his 85th cap for England making him the most capped right back in English history.
