Results of the Speakers Corner Easter egg hunt

We love Easter here at Speakers Corner because, quite frankly, it gives us a reason to eat chocolate (not that we've ever needed a reason). This year, our team took the sugar levels up a notch with an intrepid Easter egg hunt.

The results are in:

Eggs hidden: 64

Eggs found: 56

Eggs lost forever: 8

And the winner with the MOST eggs at a respectful 11 is...*drum roll* Lucia of Account Management! Congrats!

Lucia wins! An egg-cellent achievement.

Did you know:

- The custom of giving eggs at Easter has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, for whom the egg symbolised life.

- The tradition of the Easter egg hunt arose from the popular belief among children today (and our team) that the Easter Bunny lays and hides baskets of coloured eggs in their homes or around the garden the night before Easter Sunday.

- In a brilliant moment of innovation, the first chocolate eggs started to appear in France and Germany during the 19th century; now, sales at Easter time make up 10% of UK chocolate spending for the whole year.

- The tallest chocolate Easter egg ever was made in Italy in 2011: 10.39 metres in height and 7,200 kg in weight!

- In fact, Easter eggs have become a luxurious art form. In 2007, an egg covered in diamonds sold for almost £9 million; the gold-and-pink enamel Faberge egg was made by the Russian royal family as an engagement gift for French aristocrat Baron Eduoard de Rothschild.

Happy Easter, everyone!
