Meet the Team: Debbie Price

14 March 2018

Hi Debbie, thanks for speaking to us today! So, tell us, how you did you end up getting to Speakers Corner?

After University I spent 7 years working in television production as a producer, researcher and celebrity booker. Then I went to Sydney, initially just for a couple of years but I ended up staying for 8! Here, I worked in recruitment at first, and then I ended up meeting a friend of a friend who worked for a speaker bureau. To be honest, I had never heard of speaker bureaus before but, as soon as I started working there, I loved it straight away. So, when I came home to the UK in 2011, I effectively tracked down Nick and Tim and kept bugging them until they gave me a job. They still rue the day!!

That’s a brilliant story, and we think they are secretly pretty happy about it! So, tell us from your years in the Speaker industry, what’s the best speaker you've seen?

People ask me this all the time, but I find it so difficult to answer as we see so many speakers on a daily basis and they are all incredibly different, it is pretty much impossible to narrow it down. My favourite speaker category is motivation because speakers such as Miles Hilton Barber, Victoria Milligan, Ade Adepitan, Jess Thom are all so inspirational and they make me want to be a better person every day. Having watched all of these great people tell their stories, it reminds me to never take anything for granted.

So, when you’re not being inspired, what do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time with family and friends and I love going out! I don’t mind where I go or what I do, I just like seeing and doing as many different things as I can! You can find me doing anything from riding a go-karting, jumping on an inflatable obstacle course, to stepping back in time at the secret cinema. Last year some of my highlights were Go Ape, going to the spa, immersive theatre experiences, cheese tasting and wine tasting (in fact, I love all sorts of tastings, I’m not fussy). I get bored quite easily so the more I can cram in to the weekend, the better!

Wow, that is a pretty comprehensive list! We love how you’ll try anything. We also heard you have a penchant for travelling, so can you tell us where have you always wanted to visit but haven’t had the chance yet?

It sounds crazy because I lived in Sydney for 8 years, but I’ve never been to New Zealand. So it is top of my list of places to visit. I also want to go to Vietnam and Cambodia, and I plan to see more of Central/Southern America and Europe. I’m bookmarking the Amalfi Coast and Montenegro for the near future!

All beautiful destinations, we can’t wait to hear about them when you do go! So, last question, the most important one, what snack can’t live without?

I’m a real crisp fiend. You can’t go wrong with an old school frazzle, chip stick or prawn cocktail skip - but I'm also partial to a new age kettle chip! Any flavour, any time.

Excellent choices, Debbie, we’ve got a lot of time for chip sticks, so good to hear you do too. Thanks for opening a little window into your life!
