Ronnie O'Sullivan Wins Fifth World Title

7 May 2013

Snooker player, Ronnie O’Sullivan beat Barry Hawkins to win the Betfair World Championships at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Ronnie beat his opponent 18-12, becoming the third man to retain the title at the venue and acquiring a new record of six centuries in a crucible final. Ronnie’s opponent Barry Hawkins spoke highly of him after the match, saying “It is a shame I lost but Ronnie is by far the best player in the world.”

After his victory Ronnie was keen to thank his sports psychiatrist Steve Peters , with whom he has worked very closely. He addressed Steve after the match and said “I have to thank Steve Peters; I wouldn’t have been able to win back-to-back titles without his help.”

Ronnie has been on top form in his recent tournaments and did not lose a session in the tournament; there was only a brief moment when he was losing in his final against Barry.

However it has not been confirmed whether Ronnie will be back in 2014, he stated “I am trying to be more of a machine but I am not a machine. I am more like Alex Higgins; I can’t say that I will be back next year. I will play in some small events.”
