Great comedy and satire require more than timing and wit: they demand the ability to hold up a mirror to society with precision, empathy, and fearless honesty. Jan Ravens is one of the UK's most accomplished impressionists, combining sharp observation with brilliant vocal mimicry to create performances that entertain and illuminate in equal measure. A long-running star of BBC Radio 4's Dead Ringers, she has become a household name through her ability to capture not just the voice but the essence of public figures, bringing political and cultural commentary to life with wit and intelligence.
Jan's credentials span over three decades of performance across stage, screen, and radio. She studied Drama at Homerton College, Cambridge, where she became the first woman president of the Footlights and directed The Cellar Tapes with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, and Tony Slattery, a revue that won the first Perrier comedy award at the Edinburgh Festival. Her career began at the BBC as a comedy producer before she returned to performing, appearing on Spitting Image and working alongside Lenny Henry, Rory Bremner, and Alistair McGowan. Her Theresa May impression achieved cult status, going viral on social media with over 1 million views on YouTube. Beyond impressions, Jan is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4 programmes, including Just A Minute, and I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, and has acted extensively in radio dramas and comedies. Her stage work includes acclaimed performances at the RSC, Chichester Festival Theatre, and Manchester Royal Exchange. Something of a game show star, she has won Mastermind, two Pointless trophies, and come first place on Richard Osman's House of Games.
Jan brings audiences a rare combination of laughter and insight, helping them see familiar figures and situations from fresh perspectives. Her solo show, Difficult Woman, achieved rave reviews and broke box office records, whilst her sell-out tour with Rory Bremner demonstrated her ability to connect with live audiences nationwide. Currently in development with HatTrick for a new comedy drama series, she continues to evolve her craft whilst maintaining her presence across radio, television, and stage. Whether performing at corporate events, conferences, or festivals, Jan delivers intelligent entertainment that sparks conversation and leaves audiences with a renewed appreciation for the power of satire to challenge, unite, and inspire.
