Ray Mears is the UK’s number one Wilderness Bushcraft guru. After many years of  adventuring  through the world, he has set up a business where he imparts his knowledge and passion about survival and the environment to the growing number of outdoor adventurers.

As a child, Ray spent hours tracking foxes in his local forest, and working his way around the problem of not having the money for proper camping equipment, and resorting to using his environment to make himself comfortable in his natural surroundings.

When his school Judo teacher, a WW2 veteran, became a major influence in Ray’s life, he started to look at the world in a different way. Ray lives by the mantra, that it is not equipment you need to survive in the wild, but knowledge.

He began to read about survival skills and put them into practice immediately in his local area in the North Downs. Before long Ray was employing his new techniques all over the world, ingratiating himself to people from every continent, who share his love of bushcraft.

Hunting, tracking, and searching for wild plants for food and medicine are unique skills, and Ray is frequently called upon by TV and radio shows as a world expert in the field.

He has appeared in Trips Money Can't Buy with Ewan McGregor; Ray Mears Goes Walkabout; Ray Mears's Northern Wilderness; World of Survival; The Essential Guide to Rocks, and many more adventure shows.

In 1983 he founded Woodlore, a survival school which enables the public to understand and put into practice the bushcraft and survival skills that Ray has made his life’s passion. The company now offers camping equipment and outdoor clothing also, after tiring of seeing explorers being mis-sold necessary gear.

Ray is dedicated to encouraging humankind to reconnect with nature, and to become liberated from the consumerism of the modern world.

Able to share the bushcraft culture and the necessary teamwork skills needed in the wild on the corporate circuit, Ray’s teachings offer a unique experience.
