It has been announced that David Beckham will be joining presenter and awards host Jonathan Ross on the sofa for his last ever show in two weeks time. The final Friday Night with Jonathan Ross will take place on 16th July and David will be there alongside the martial arts movie star Jackie Chan. The band Roxy Music fronted by Bryan Ferry will also be performing at Jonathan’s request.
The interview with David Beckham is highly anticipated following England’s early defeat in the World Cup and it is expected that he will be given extra time on the sofa during the show which will mark the end of Jonathan’s 13 years with the BBC. Following his decision not to renew his BBC contract Jonathan will also hand over his Radio 2 commitments to Graham Norton next month and Film 2010 will be presented by Claudia Winkleman. Claudia is the first female host of the show and only the third presenter since the series started in 1972, following in the footsteps of Barry Norman and Jonathan. Claudia currently hosts her own Radio 2 Friday night Arts Show on theatre, film, music, TV and the arts, and has recently presented BBC Sport Relief 2010 and It Takes Two for Strictly Come Dancing. There is also speculation that the very popular and talented musical act 4 Poofs & a Piano who join Jonathan every week will feature in their own show.
Jonathan will still continue to present the British Comedy Awards when it moves to Channel 4 next year. The awards show has been broadcast by the ITV for the past 20 years but Unique Television – the awards producers – have signed a 3 year deal with Channel 4 who want to boost their comedy shows thanks to the recent triumphs of Comedy Gala and Alternative Election Night.
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross has three shows to go and tomorrow night Jonathan will be joined on the sofa by Robin Williams, Elle Macpherson, Mark Ronson and the award-winning comedian, songwriter, singer and pianist Tim Minchin. Tim will be busy touring this year and next in Toronto, Montreal and throughout the UK including appearances at Camp Bestival and Sonisphere. He is a rising star with an incredible talent for writing his own tailor-made songs to suit any audience and is currently writing the lyrics and music for the musical Matilda with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
