Comedian, Rob Auton, who gave up selling paintbrushes to perform on stage full-time, has come up with the funniest gag of the Edinburgh Fringe.
Rob Auton’s joke goes “I heard a rumour that Cadbury is bringing out an oriental chocolate bar. Could be a Chinese Wispa.” Speaking about his joke, Rob stated “I’m just pleased a joke that tackles the serious issue of the invention of a new chocolate bar can be laughed at by the people of Britain.”
Rob beat other comedians such as Tim Vine and Marcus Brigstocke to win the award. He has been doing stand up since 2008 and only recently quit his job as a paintbrush seller to become a full-time comedian.
In order to pick the best gag, judges sit through hours of material before they nominate their favourite three gags for the shortlist. Fans then voted for the winner of the award, which is called the Dave funniest joke of the Fringe.
Dave’s general manager Steve North said “This year’s top ten is quick, sharp, witty and clever.”
