Broadcaster and journalist Jeremy Paxman has signed a deal with the BBC involving a 20 per cent pay cut, reports the Daily Mail.
The Newsnight and University Challenge presenter has signed a four-year £3.2 million deal, significantly less than the £1 million a year he was said to have earned under his previous contract.
Speculation about Paxman departing the BBC had been rife, with many sources suggesting he may be seeking a new challenge after 21 years on Newsnight.
Paxman is one of Britain’s best known TV personalities, with a unique wry wit and an in-depth understanding of current affairs and news analysis. He has won the prestigious BAFTA Richard Dimbleby Award twice, and impresses audiences regularly as a conference facilitator.
