Jimmy Wales Joins The Guardian Board

8 February 2016

Wikipedia founder and  keynote speaker  Jimmy Wales has been appointed board member of the Guardian Media Group along with Baroness Gail Rebuck, the chair of book publisher Penguin Random House UK.

“I have always admired the Guardian’s bold, independent and courageous open-source journalism and am thrilled to be joining the GMG board,” said Jimmy Wales.

The founder of Wikipedia, which celebrated its 15th birthday this year, is a fervent champion of free speech; he aims to have every single person on the planet gain free access to knowledge.

‘We’re delighted that they have chosen to join the GMG board,’ says Andy Berkett of The Guardian.

“The publishing industry is changing rapidly and their collective expertise, along with that of the existing board members, will ensure we continue to be strongly placed to adapt to future challenges, leading the way with our ground-breaking journalism.”
