Dr Dambisa Moyo is on a speaking tour to promote her new book ‘Dead Aid’ in which she argues that foreign aid to the Third World is counter-productive. Her theory was the talk of the recent Hay Festival. Dr Moyo believes that continued flow of money has bred a culture of corruption and an over-dependence and reliance.
Educated in economics and chemistry at Oxford, Harvard and Washington, Dr Moyo worked at Goldman Sacks for 8 years and at the World Bank in Washington. She is calling for more innovative ways for Africa to finance development including trade with China, accessing the capital markets and microfinance.
Dr Moyo has another book in the pipeline entitled ‘How the West was Lost’ scheduled for publication in 2010.
