Dr. Wayne Visser is Director of the think-tank and media company, Kaleidoscope Futures, and Fellow of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. He describes himself as a professional idea-monger, storyteller, and meme-weaver, and he sees his mission as helping to bring about transformative thinking and action in business and society.
His work as a strategy analyst, sustainability advisor, CSR expert, futurist and captivating keynote speaker has taken him to 74 countries in the past 30 years to work with over 150 clients, ranging from Coca-Cola, Dell, DHL and HSBC to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank.
A prolific writer, Wayne is the author of 26 books – including 'The World Guide to Sustainable Enterprise' and 'Sustainable Frontiers: Unlocking Change through Business, Leadership and Innovation'. He has published over over 320 chapters, articles and reports and is a guest columnist for The Huffington Post and The Guardian. He believes that we learn best by constantly challenging ourselves to do research, formulate our thoughts into compelling narratives and share our discoveries and insights.
Wayne’s professional life began as a strategy analyst with CAP Gemini in Johannesburg, and he was subsequently responsible for setting up and coordinating the activities of SANE (The South African New Economics) to promote a socially just and environmentally sustainable economy in South Africa, editing the newsletter and writing a weekly online economics column.
Before completing his PhD in Corporate Social Responsibility, Wayne was Director of Sustainability Services for KPMG. His other qualifications include an MSc in Human Ecology from Edinburgh University and a Bachelor of Business Science in Marketing from Cape Town University.
He then moved to the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership as Senior Associate and Internal Examiner, and had previously held positions in the same place as Research Director and External Examiner.
Highly regarded as an expert in his field, Wayne has been recognised as one of the world’s Top 48 ‘thriveability’ leaders (2015) and Top 70 ‘sustainerati’ (2015), a Top 100 influencer on Twitter in CSR and sustainable business (2014), a Top 100 thought-leader in trustworthy business (2013) and a Top 100 global sustainability leader (2012).
