At Speakers Corner we love nothing more than a wide-brimmed straw hat, a pina colada and that feeling of belonging, as we stroll through the throngs at a summer festival, hoping to breathe in some ambience, hear funky live music and best of all, sampling the delights dished out by celebrity chefs across the Capital.
Social campaigner and TV chef Jamie Oliver hosts a brand new festival in South London. The Big Feastival is the first of its kind: a summer festival combining top-class food with the world’s best live music and laughs, including a stand up show from TV’s best loved warm up act, comedian Jimmy McGhie. Michelin-starred restaurant Benares will be represented at the Feastival with chef Atul Kochhar blending traditional spices and flavour combined with modern day science and contemporary Indian style, in his pop-up kitchen.
A committee of London’s leading food and drink gurus brings together amazing edibles from the UK’s best restaurants, and visitors will have access to pop-up kitchens across the site while listening to live sets from the UKs top bands – all overseen by Jamie Oliver. And this is a festival with a heart: all profits go to The Prince’s Trust and The Jamie Oliver Foundation to help disadvantaged young people.
The Big Feastival’s action packed Big Kitchen line-up is filled with exciting chefs showing off their trade secrets. With master classes and demonstrations, visitors will revel in culinary and musical delights. The Feastival’s One Big Menu is set to revolutionise festival food with London's top restaurants offering sensational flavours from around the world. Visitors will have the choice of a chicken tikka pie from Michelin-starred Benares, Mexican street food from Wahaca, or popcorn shrimp from Redhook.
A tasty bite should always be followed by a laugh, and top comedians will be on hand to amuse the crowds. Alongside Jimmy McGhie will be stand up acts of the highest calibre: Richard Herring, Ed Gamble, Ray Peacock and Tom Deacon.
Other features of the Feastival include an artisan Food Market, a funfair, a Romany-inspired cafe garden, a Bbq competition, and a tent hosted by the new wave of young London WIs including the formidable Shoreditch Sisters and Borough Belles.
