17 year old Mike Perham becomes the youngest person to sail solo around the world
The teenage sailor, Mike Perham, has today become the youngest person ever to sail solo around the world, nine months after setting sail from Portsmouth.
Having tackled 50ft waves, gale force winds and technical problems during a 30,000-mile circumnavigation Mike Perham, the 17 year old from Potters Bar sailed across the finishing line - between Lizard Point in Cornwall and Ushant in France - to earn his place in the Guinness Book of Records.
He already holds another record - being the youngest person at 14 years of age to sail single-handedly across the Atlantic.
If Mike hones up on his speaking skills, he may well join other sailors on the motivational speaking circuit. Ellen MacArthur, Dee Caffari, Ben Ainslie, Robin Knox Johnston, Tracy Edwards and Pete Goss are just a few of the superb inspirational conference speakers.
