On Tuesday morning we heard the very sad and shocking news that Professor Aidan Halligan, a UK based Irish doctor and speaker, had died at the age of 57.
Aidan was a speaker we had worked with on many occasions. As Executive Chairman of an enterprise formed to accelerate reform and leadership in healthcare organisations he was called upon regularly to speak on health, leadership and teamwork to both health and corporate clients.
He made such an impact on audiences with his speeches; by sharing his knowledge, he was someone who easily crossed over to the inspirational as seen in testimonials received back from our clients: “Inspiring speaker! One of the best speakers I have heard, raised my mood and empowered me” and “Engaging, articulate great messages. Our audience evaluation gave him 100% "excellent" rating”.
Aidan Halligan - who famously turned down the chance to become the first head of the Health Service Executive (HSE); who was not hesitant in speaking his mind – to us and our clients on occasion – always managed to deliver a great and compelling speech that could differ to some degree on what the client intended, but was very much welcomed after the event. This showed an intelligence and an ability to see the wider issues in play in our client’s field, something Aidan was able to understand very quickly once he had spoken to them before the event.
We will miss that directness, and his warmth too, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, close friends and associates at this very difficult time.
