The BBC has announced its coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and will be broadcasting some of this year’s highlights.

This year’s highlights include a broadcast of the annual Edinburgh Comedy Gala from the Edinburgh Playhouse, hosted by Kevin Bridges and Adam Hills. The showcase being aired on BBC Three involves comedy acts such as Phill Jupitus , Stephen K Amos , Jason Byrne, Russell Kane and Lee Nelson to name a few.

The BBC venue in Potterow will be hosting shows from Drivetime’s Simon Mayo, 5 Live’s Richard Bacon and Shaun Keaveny from 6 Music. Radio 4 will be broadcasting comedy shows from the festival and the BBC New Comedy Award will also be held at their Potterow venue.

For the first years Radio Scotland’s ‘MacAulay and Co’ will be extending its coverage of the festival from two weeks to three. Fred MacAulay spoke about the extension stating “Over the years, tickets for our Edinburgh shows have gone within days of being made available and guests have been clamouring to come on… So this year we're going to increase our Fringe presence from two weeks to three. With 15 shows, we'll be able to accommodate 50 per cent more guests”.

The BBC will also be broadcasting three special Culture Shows on BBC Two, festival review shows on BBC Four, Radio 3 coverage of the festival and BBC One will be covering the Tattoo.
