International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also marking a call to action for accelerating women's equality. In preparation for its arrival, many event professionals organized some incredible events around game changing voices paving a way to a more equal future.

From trend-setting speakers, fintech specialists, climate change activists, and a celebration of children making a difference worldwide, check out this week’s incredible speakers in our weekly addition of The Week That Was.

Cate Trotter

Founder and Head of Trends at Insider Trends, Cate Trotter joined us at Speakers Corner to share insights on retail, trends and technology. Giving us a sneak peak into the latest innovations and her experience of setting up a successful businesses to help global brands create seamless and profitable customer experiences, we where excited for what the future might hold in a new and revolutionary digital world.

Unthink Tank Presents Flipping Tradition

This International Women’s Day, Yolt’s Unthink Tank created a special event that invited Fintech experts Megan Caywood, Cassey Lord, Ghela Boskovich, Clare Reilly, Pauline van Brakel, to Think Rise London. Together they drew on their personal experiences in navigating an industry marked by old traditions, and how they’re driving change from within and who they aim to empower along the way.

Linda Zeilina

Director of RE-DEFINE, Linda Zeilina came into Speakers Corner to share her story and the work she does in sustainability integration. Linda focuses on ways how to drive transformational change, and how to develop, implement and execute sustainability initiatives. A fantastic insight into the future of sustainable integration.

Surviving the Climate Crisis

UN climate change diplomat Christiana Figueres, and her political strategist Tom Rivett-Carnac, spoke about their new book, The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis. Together, they outline the two possible scenarios for our future: what our planet will look like if we fail to meet the Paris climate targets; and how it will look and feel to live in a carbon neutral world.

The night involved a passionate call to arms, urging immediate action from us all.

WE Day

Now in it’s seventh year, WE Day UK brought together a star-studded line up of speakers including Idris Elba, Jamie Oliver, Lewis Hamilton, Julia Gillard, Leona Lewis, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, Adwoah Aboah, Calum Scott, Neelam Gill, Bella Ramsey, Laura Whitmore, Yusra Mardini, Margaret Trudeau, Niga Levy-Rapaport, Maya Ghazal, Alexandra Adams, Spencer West, founders Craig and Marc Kielburger and more to celebrate world-changing social activism led by local students.

Kickass Women in Tech

What better way to end the week then in celebration of #InternationalWomensDay! Kickass Women Holly Boothroyd of Microsoft, Natalie Deeble of Facebook, Michelle Lee of Deloitte, Jennifer Heape of Vixen Labs and Bihe Zhu of Women In Tech Club who slayed their talks on technology and business! A truly inspiring night at hosted by General Academy!
