Hundreds of celebrities and city bosses are expected to be sleeping rough tonight, 12th November, in order to raise awareness and funds for a homeless charity.
Centrepoint, the charity for the 16-25 year old homeless, is launching its Countdown to Christmas campaign with the 'sleep out' in the City of London and hopes to raise £250,000.
Celebrities who will be sleeping out for the night include:
- Casualty actor Joe McFadden
- Loose Women presenter Lisa Maxwell
- Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox
- Ed Mitchell, former ITN newsreader
- Daniel Smith, 26yr old businessmen & entrepreneur (recently seen on Secret Millionaire where he went undercover to help young homeless)
- DJ Sonique, Brit award winner
- Niamh Cusack
- Former Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon
Mayor of London Boris Johnson who supports the event said: “I applaud and whole heartedly support Centrepoint's invaluable work with young homeless people in London. Young people are living at the most extreme end of homelessness in the capital in circumstances that are unacceptable in the 21st century. I'd encourage everyone to give generously to those taking part in this year's Centrepoint Sleep-Out and show their support for this hugely important work."
Prince William who is the charity's patron, has praised those taking part and encourages others to join the action. "The more people who understand the devastation inflicted on young lives by homelessness, the more Centrepoint can do to support those same young people. Young men and women are driven to homelessness for all sorts of reasons, and the support that Centrepoint offers can be life-saving and life-changing."
